East Grand Lake

East Grand Lake, Danforth Maine, a 16,070-acre, 22-mile long lake located in southern Aroostook and northern Washington counties, is a boundary with Canada and a Canadian fishing license is required for fishing on the Canadian side. An extremely rocky coastline, the clear lake water homes smallmouth bass fishing, lake trout, landlocked salmon, white perch, pickerel, and brook trout.

A rural region of Maine, this lake area hosts a multitude of wildlife including moose, raccoon, beaver, black bear, otter, fishers, porcupine, mink, white tail deer, skunk, muskrats, numerous waterfowl and 68 species of birds including black ducks, mallards, Canada Goose, bald eagles, osprey, owl, grosbeaks, kingfishers, and loons. A half-hour drive north of Danforth toward Houlton is a wildlife refuge, A. E. Howell Wildlife Conservation Center.

A rustic waterfront cabin sleeping up to 7 is available for rent seasonably. Located in Danforth (pop. 564), about 2 miles off Rt.1 heading south, left at State Boat Launch, the fully furnished cabin is just past the launch area less than 1000ft.on a private road. The cabin is minutes from the deepest hole near Greenland Cove and Greenland Point. Danforth has a reasonably appointed grocery store, but limited liquor purchases. Depending on direction to the cabin, it is recommended to make purchases in Houlton, Calais or Lincoln while en route.
